Route – Settlements

Starting from Heraklion, we follow Knossos Boulevard until we exit the town and meet the archaeological site of Knossos. At a short distance around the palace, there are also other important Minoan monuments, such as the “Royal Mansion”, the Little Palace, the “Karavan Serai”, the “House of the High Priest”, the Royal Tomb – Sanctuary and the House of Dionysus.
In the south of Knossos, we follow the beautiful valley until we meet the first vineyards.
At a short distance, at Spilia, we can see the old aqueduct bridge, which supplied Heraklion with the water of Arhanes springs.
A little further, in the south of Spilia, we arrive at a junction and turn east towards the village Skalani, which is located at the crest of a hill full of grapevines.
Following the road which crosses the small valley of the Patsides settlement, we have the opportunity to admire the wonderful rural landscape and watch the vineyards spread all over the slopes of the valley as far as Kato Arhanes village. A few kilometers southern, we arrive at Arhanes, one of the most flourishing agricultural settlements in Greece, with deep roots in the Minoan Culture and with a long tradition in the production of wine.
In the west of the settlement, we overlook Mount Yiouhta and various archaeological sites, such as the Minoan cemetery at Fourni, the Sanctuary at Anemospilia and the Peak Sanctuary.
